The Crater Tour
Our custom-built open-sided six-person safari vehicles offer comfort, panoramic viewing, dedicated safari guides, refreshments on-board and radio-links for fast location of game. The Crater itself lies under the jurisdiction of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, which has its headquarters at Park Village at Ngorongoro Crater. Fees are payable for entry to the crater area, which operates only two official entry points: the Lodoare Gate and the Naabi Hill Gate, both of which open at 7am and close (for descent) at 4pm. All vehicles must leave the Crater before 6pm.
Typically a Crater Tour will be either morning (with a picnic breakfast) or afternoon (with a picnic lunch). Some 120 km of roads tour the Crater, which with its unparalleled concentrations of wildlife is one of Tanzania's most visited destinations. Within the steep and unbroken walls of this ‘land that time forgot' an incredible natural drama is enacted as lions, elephants, buffaloes and plains game graze and stalk the grasslands, swamps and forests. Often, tour vehicles will stop off to visit an authentic Maasai community before or after the Crater descent.
