Selous Discovery
5 Day Safari at the Selous Game Reserve
THE SELOUS GAME RESERVE: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Selous is the largest game reserve in Africa, a spectacular 55,000 km2. With a magnificent ecosystem of woodland, savannah, marsh, lake and river, the Selous, is home to over 400 species of bird and 2000 species of plants. It has the largest buffalo concentration in Africa, over half of Tanzania’s elephant population and a massive one third of Africa’s entire population of the rare and endangered wild dog.
Selous Luxury Camp is located in a pristine area of the Selous, close to Stieglers Gorge and offers luxurious accommodation, true African hospitality and outstanding standards of service.
Duration: 5 Days
Dar es Salaam to Selous Luxury Camp
Fly Dar es Salaam to the Selous, landing at Stieglers Airstrip where your guide will welcome you and drive you to the Selous Luxury Camp. After lunch, head off on an evening game drive, or perhaps you would prefer to explore the Maji Moto hot springs. Surrounded by lush vegetation, these picturesque pools are just cool enough to swim in. Dinner and overnight at Selous Luxury Camp.
Selous Luxury Camp
To make the most of all that the Selous has to offer, we do recommend a full day game drive. Leaving after breakfast, you can expect to drive through a variety of eco systems and are likely to see elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion and wild dog to name but a few. A picnic lunch is set up under the shade of a tree with camp table and chairs. Perhaps stop at the small but significant grave stone of Frederick Courteney Selous, before returning to Camp in time to enjoy pre dinner drinks around the fire. Dinner and overnight at Selous Luxury Camp.
Selous Luxury Camp
Perhaps enjoy a lazy start this morning and indulge in a private bush breakfast, a remarkable Out of Africa dining experience. In the afternoon, head out for an evening game drive or venture out on a bush walk for a different game viewing experience. Accompanied with an armed ranger the bush walks offer a fascinating insight into the world of birds, flora, fauna and a chance to learn about the tracks and signs of Africa’s wildlife. In the evening we would suggest a tranquil sundowner on a hill top, returning to Selous Luxury Camp for dinner on the deck. Dinner and overnight at Selous Luxury Camp.
Selous Luxury Camp
Depart on an early morning game drive, or enjoy a bird walk around camp with our resident naturalist. In the afternoon we would suggest heading out on a Rufiji River cruise. Motor up stream toward Stieglers Gorge and then slowly float back down the river in our custom-built boats. Cat and Tiger fish are prolific in the river. If you’d like to try fishing, we will provide rods and a choice of sites and the kitchen is always delighted to cook your catch for you. Comfortable and with a cool box full of chilled drinks of your choice, an evening on the river is exceptional. Dinner and overnight at Selous Luxury Camp.
