Serena Hotels Employee Wellness Program reaches Final Stage of the Global Business Coalition on HIV/ AIDS 2011 Competition
Serena Hotels Employee Wellness Program is a Finalist in the Global Business Coalition on HIV/ AIDS 2011 Competition
13 May 2011: The Serena Wellness Program has for the very first time received recognition as a finalist in the Workplace Engagement category for the 2011 Global Business Coalition on HIV/ AIDS (GBC). “…We were excited to learn more about your Employee Wellness Program and were impressed with Serena Hotels commitment towards achieving Global Health…” said Whitney L. White who is also the Coordinator of the 2011 GBC Business Action on Health Awards.
GBC is a conglomeration of more than 220 companies dedicated to championing the private sector fight against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Each year, GBC Celebrates companies at the forefront of private sector engagement in health and HIV/ AIDS Awareness. The Annual Conference brings together more than 500 Business Executives and Policy Makers with a common objective to elevate discussions on corporate response to global health challenges and to identify avenues for future business action.
This International Recognition is a big achievement for the Serena Employee Wellness Program that begun in 2001 with the aim of addressing increasing numbers of HIV/ AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis infections and the subsequent impact it has on business. Over the years however, Serena Hotels has worked very closely with various partner organizations including the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) National HIV/ AIDS facilitation team; Family Health International for the initial training of Peer Educators for the HIV/ AIDS workplace program. The successful transition of this program has seen a notable reduction in the number of work place infections over the years and consequent improved employee productivity and motivation.
Despite competition from other entrants in a competition that was dubbed one of the toughest, the Serena Wellness Program reached the final stage. For this achievement, Serena has been granted the opportunity to use The GBC Awards Insignia as recognition for reaching the Elite Finalist stage of the 2011 competition.
In communication addressed to Catherine Waruhiu- the Serena Hotels Group Human Resource Manager, GBC recognized the effort Serena is placing on ensuring the maximum involvement of its employees towards advancing the fight against HIV/ AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and its general effort towards promoting global business health in the work place.
