Arusha, Western Serengeti, Selous Game Reserve and Zanzibar
This extensive and highly varied air safari begins with a night in a stone-built ‘cottage’ room on the shores of Lake Duluti, which lies amid coffee plantations in the foothills of Mount Meru. Next, a short flight takes you into the heart of the mighty Serengeti, whose name means ‘the place of the endless plains’ and which is home to unrivalled herds of migratory plains game and their attendant cast of predators. Here, you will stay in classic tented accommodation and can enjoy a whole day on safari in Tanzania’s largest and most famous national reserve before flying on to Africa’s largest and least-visited reserve, the legendary Selous. Here you will be accommodated in the exceptionally luxurious Mivumo River Lodge, which overlooks the Rufiji River, and offers a unique selection of river safaris, river-side sundowners and guided walks. Finally, fly north-east and over the Indian Ocean to the romantic island of Zanzibar where the superb Serena Zanzibar Inn stands in the centre of Stone Town, one of Africa’s most ancient Swahili settlements.

Arrival - Arusha
This Safari commences from Kilimanjaro Airport, Arusha, Tanzania, where after clearing all formalities, you will be met by our local reception team, who will drive you to Arusha Mountain Village (60kms). Set against the backdrop of the wooded slopes of Mount Meru, this village-styled lodge stands amid coffee plantations on the shores of Lake Duluti and has been styled to echo the ambience of the coffee farm that originally stood on this site. Standing at the gateway to the famous Tanzanian ‘Northern Safari Circuit’, the lodge offers a broad range of attractions, which include: walking, mountain biking, and canoeing on the lake.

Arusha to Western Serengeti
After an early-morning wake-up call and breakfast at Serena Mountain Village, transfer to Arusha Airport for your scheduled flight to Grumeti Airstrip, Western Serengeti. On arrival, you will be met by your Camp driver guide and transfer to Kirawira Luxury Tented Camp with game viewing en-route. One of the most exclusive of our many safari venues and a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group, Kirawira promises the epitome of classic ‘Out of Africa’ safari camp style, while enjoying a unique location adjacent to the famous western corridor of the Serengeti National Park, the arena for the ‘Greatest Wildlife Show on Earth’, the annual migration of over one million wildebeest.
Morning and afternoon game drives, all meals and overnight at Kirawira Luxury Tented Camp.
Western Serengeti
With a whole day on safari in the Serengeti, you have unrivalled access to all that this renowned biosphere has to offer. Your package also includes game drives morning and afternoon and the services of a dedicated (English-speaking) driver/guide. Vast and sensational, the Serengeti covers 14,763 sq km of endlessly rolling savannah plains, and is Tanzania’s first-established, largest and most famous park. Here, twice a year, propelled by the rains, 1.3 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle gather to undertake an 800 km trek to new grazing lands. The precise timing of the migration varies but generally the herbivores congregate and move out at the end of May, sometimes over a period of weeks, sometimes over a period of as little as three or four days. Heading west on a roughly triangular 800-km circuit they head to the Masai Mara National Reserve of Kenya. When the grazing here is exhausted the tide of herbivores turns and reverses its progress returning to the short grass plains of Tanzania.
Morning and afternoon game drives, all meals and overnight at Kirawira Luxury Tented Camp.

After breakfast at the camp, drive to Grumeti Airstrip for your scheduled flight to Stiegler's Airstrip in Selous via Arusha. Built out on timbered decks above the banks of the mighty Rufiji River with long views down the plunging torrents of Stiegler’s Gorge, this traditional timber and thatch lodge offers just twelve luxurious chalets, each of which stands on its own river-view deck, with rain shower and private plunge pool. After an afternoon river boat safari, enjoy sundowners on a sandbank in the river before returning to the lodge in time for dinner overlooking the river, which is home to unprecedented numbers of hippos and crocodiles.
