What to do and see
One of the major tourism events in the region is the July Festival of Culture and Tourism, which features traditional Pamir dance, theatre, song and art, as well as showcasing a wide range of traditional handicraft and heritage crafts from Badakhshan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China and Afghanistan.
Additionally, visits can be made to
- the Khorog centre,
- the city park,
- the botanical gardens,
- the handicraft shops,
- the Pamir Eco Cultural Association,
- the Museum,
- the buildings of the central government and university,
- or to a series of hot springs.The Garm Chashma springs are 47km from the city, while the Auj springs are 87km and the Pitob springs are 188kms. Much closer are the Nasiri Khusrou cold springs, which lie just 10km from the city.
- Alternatively a trip can be made to the beautiful Sarez Lake, which lies 240km from the city.
