what to do and see at the swat serena hotel
Known as the ‘Switzerland of Pakistan’, the Swat Valley is a place of great natural beauty, abounding in green meadows and clear lakes. Irrigated by the Swat River, it is backed by the snow-capped mountains of the Hindu Kush. Inhabiated for over two thousand years, the Swat Valley also offers a unique history, the remains of which can be seen in the Buddhist temples, Hindu fortresses and Islamic ruins. The hotel itself stands in beautiful landscaped gardens, which provide a haven for the exceptional local birdlife. Breakfasts, lunches, afternoon tea or dinner can also be arranged in the grounds or on the banks of the Swat River. A traditional Qisakhawani BBQ can also be arranged within the grounds, with entertainment by the local rabab and tabla musicians. Alternatively we can arrange for a fresh trout supper.
The hotel has its own 10-seater tour bus, which offers daily scheduled tours. The manager will also be delighted to arrange a private tour for you; among the many choices are:
- A visit to the local bazaar, which is just 5 minutes drive from the hotel.
- A day trip to one of the local ski resorts, which stand at 9000 feet above sea level.
