5 star experience in every aspect

During our visit to Tanzania we stayed at other Serena and sister Sopa lodges and a different resort on the eastern side of Zanzibar. This Serena wins my vote for the best of the bunch.

The room and the bathroom were not the biggest we had in our trip. But the room was fine for two people. The stunning decor room and high ceilings were just great. The magnificent wrap-around balcony - one side with Indian Ocean views the other side swimming pool views, a hammock and lovely chairs - was the spot to relax with a morning cup of tea.

The room was well maintained, comfortable and clean. AC is available in rooms too.

The grounds - not huge by any means - were nicely landscaped and added to the ambiance of the hotel - as did the decor in the public areas.

The restaurant and bar - both food and service - were excellent and I'll review in detail elsewhere on TA restaurant category. But - briefly about the breakfast buffet -, the breakfast buffet was the largest we saw in our stay in Tanzania. The local Swahili dishes on the buffet were particularly delicious and varied during our stay.

In the evenings, sitting outside the bar (or alongside pool) enjoying the live taraab music, peanuts, a beer or drink and a light meal - and the magnificent Indian Ocean sunsets will be the highlight of any stay here. Not to be missed.

Service is simply excellent. The manger (unfortunately I do not recall his name) and Big Joe (the concierge) were always charming, engaging and extremly helpful. (Not to mention seem to be around to share a brief conversation or offer a helping hand from well before breakfast till well after sundown.)

Front desk staff was friendly and very helpful responding to questions and inquiries.

The location was perfect and convenient to explore historic Stonetown by foot.

To sum up - I highly recommend this hotel. Hope you enjoy the Indian Ocean sunsets and chatting with the Manager and Big Joe.

From the moment we arrived we were greeted we warmth and kindness. Mango juice and smiles came right away. Beautiful pool right by the ocean and the restaurant is looking over the ocean. The staffs knew our names right away, especially Jackson and Big Joe! So peaceful and relaxing! Hair dryers in the room were a welcome after our safari. Close to restaurants and shops!

Lovely boutique hotel

This hotel is in the heart of stone town, close to everything. The view are outstanding right at the beach. The hotel has a homey cosy feeling to it & the staff were just amazing and so accommodating.

I want to specifically mention the amazing staff:
Restaurent: Mariam & Grace thank you for the amazing service

Reception: Amina & Zena than you for your warm hospitality.

The food here is also lovely!

" I miss my terrace view of ocean"

Great hotel in Stone town, an UNESCO building . Vegetation around pool very tropical and lush. Room 53 was so beautiful . We had fruit and wine upon arrival, there was a great armoire to store clothes , great shower AND the terrace looks right out on Indian ocean. Check out the hammock , perfect place for viewing magical sunsets. Staff all charming and very helpful. Some nights we had amazing music by the bar. Great food in bar , recommend spice ice cream and samosas.
