About Dushanbe

Dushanbe, the capital of the Republic of Tajikistan, means “Monday” in Tajik. The name of the central capital reflects the fact that the city was developed on the site of several villages that had been renowned for a thriving Monday market.

The capital city is located in the west of the country, along the Varzob River and is surrounded by the Hissar Mountains. Dushanbe has an approximate population of 1.2 million.

Located in the heart of the capital city, overlooking the confluence of the Kofarnihon and Dushanbe rivers, Dushanbe Serena Hotel has created a new landmark in the city. Following a 10 minute drive from the Dushanbe International Airport, the hotel is a social and business hub for the residents of Dushanbe as well as the foreigners visiting the capital city for business or for leisure.

About Tajikistan

The Republic of Tajikistan is a mountainous Central Asian state that traces its history back from the Samanid Empire. The last Persian-speaking Empire to rule Central Asia used this land, now known as Tajikistan, for the purpose of uplifting the Persian language in the wake of the Arab conquest in the early 8th century. Tajikistan was then ruled by the expanding Russian Empire along with the rest of the Central Asian States. It became an independent Soviet Socialist Republic in 1929.

Tajikistan is now an independent republic that borders Afghanistan to the South, Uzbekistan to the West, Kyrgyzstan to the North and China to the East. The country is part of a culturally rich region and it shares a common language, culture and history with Afghanistan and Iran. Majority of Tajikistan's population belongs to Persian-speaking Tajik ethnic group, who take great pride in their inherent cultural heritage.
