Serena Khaplu Palace is a boutique heritage hotel and one of the finest surviving examples of a 19th-century royal residence in Baltistan. Beautifully restored, it allows guests to experience the grandeur of a historic Raja Palace while enjoying the comforts of a modern boutique hotel. Set against the backdrop of towering peaks and apricot orchards, the hotel features 21 unique rooms and suites adorned with traditional woodwork, antiques, and contemporary amenities. Guests can savour Balti and continental cuisine at Sarfa Khar Restaurant or enjoy local flavours with panoramic views at the Khatamband Loggia. As a gateway to the glaciers and valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan, Serena Khaplu Palace offers immersive cultural experiences, from visits to centuries-old mosques and nearby villages to treks through majestic landscapes, all in a peaceful and spiritually rich setting.

Historic Accommodation in Khaplu

Embracing the layout and character of a traditional Raja Palace, Serena Khaplu Palace is a place of tranquil courtyards and fruit gardens around which 21 rooms and suites – some dating back to the 1840’s – are arranged. Roofs are wood-beamed and interiors showcase locally inspired antiques, fabrics and cultural artefacts. 

Six historical accommodations – Two Royal Suites, Two Heritage Suites and Two Standard Rooms – are located in the original Old Palace (Yabgo Khar), each offering an exclusive and authentic experience steeped in royal culture. The more contemporary Garden House contains 13 guest rooms and two suites equipped with modern amenities. These rooms offer private terraces and views of the surrounding Thoqsikhar (Old Yabgo Fort, Khaplu Pastures and traditional settlements of Khaplu). Each room has been tastefully decorated with handmade textiles and antique objects. All rooms at Serena Khaplu Palace are non-smoking.

Royal Suite

The hotel’s two Royal Suites are equipped with a king bed, an anteroom and an adjoining baithak. The Raja Suite features a “Shah-e-Nasheen,” and the Rani Suite features an airy balcony decorated with wooden latticework and a beautiful baithak.
