PERFECT GETAWAY TO CREATE MEMORIES

The property is an oasis of beauty in the middle of a village. The large property has lots of native trees and birds, and the pool and fitness centre are a boon with the heat and all the good food.

The hotel overlooks a “swimmable” lake (although there is too much plastic and garbage floating around to want to venture in).

The staff are very friendly and accommodating. When we arrived, we wanted to ensure we had a quiet room, and I guess knowing they were hosting 2 private functions that night, they upgraded us to a luxurious 2-room suite with private (large!) balcony. Unfortunately we could still hear the booming music from the functions until 10pm, followed by more distant but still booming music probably coming from the local village.

The buffet breakfast was wonderful, and the a la carte menu has lots of good options, although service was a little slow.

Lovely first-class hotel.

I would argue the Serena Lake Kivu is more than a four star hotel with great facilities, good food and excellent breakfast, outstanding service from friendly staff. Best feature of the hotel is the wonderful beach front location and impeccable pool area. Very enjoyable!

Excellent, well run hotel, situated in a beautiful location. Very clean, comfortable rooms, delicious food and an outstanding, friendly staff. Assistant Mgr, Laurent, and General Mgr., Jonathan, are both super competent and made our experience one that we’ll never forget. I highly recommend the Serena to anyone visiting Lake Kivu / Gisenyi.

A wonderful experience, the friendliest and warmest hotel staff I have ever met. The property is clean, well-maintained and in a superb location. Chef Joyce provides some outstanding meals and management, service staff and all the other employees really go the extra mile to make you feel welcome.

Lake Kivu Serena is a superb place for those seeking elegance, comfort, and a restful lakeside atmosphere — whether as a relaxing stop on a broader Rwanda itinerary (for example, after gorilla trekking) or simply as a destination in its own right. The combination of beautiful views, first‑rate amenities, and thoughtful service make it well worth the cost for travellers who want to unwind in style, with just enough luxury to make the stay memorable without sacrificing authenticity.
